The project, SOIL PROTECTION AND REHABILITATION OF DEGRADED SOIL IN WESTERN KENYA (Pro-Soil), aims to conserve and rehabilitate degraded soil, to promote water quality and ensure climate protection. The project which is funded by GIZ is being implemented by WWANC in partnership with key stakeholders like Water Resources Authority (WRA) through Water Resource User Associations (WRUAs), National and County Governments administrators, Political and Religious leaders, representatives from Learning Institutions and the Kenya Forest Service.
The project is being implemented in 6 Sub-Catchment areas namely Firatsi, Middle River Yala and Kisama (Kakamega County), Siga and Upper Kawaya (Siaya County) and Khalaba (Bungoma County).
Activities carried out:
Sensitization;
Riparian marking and pegging using live bamboo seedlings;
Planting of indigenous tree seedlings;
Baseline data assessment for water quality and quantity.
