Rose Wamalwa is a development practitioner, gender and climate change specialist and programme strategist with over 25 years of experience advancing gender-responsive climate action, community development and sustainable natural resource management across Africa.

She is Co-Founder of Women in Water and Natural Resources Conservation (WWANC), through which she has contributed to mentoring more than 50,000 women as Climate Action Ambassadors and led landscape restoration initiatives supporting the planting of approximately 3 million indigenous trees across 14 Kenyan counties, including the Mau Forest Complex and Kakamega Forest ecosystem.

As East Africa Regional Director at Women's Earth Alliance (WEA), she provides strategic leadership across programmes in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, ensuring interventions are evidence-based, gender-responsive, climate-resilient and aligned with community priorities. She is also Lead Researcher for the Women's Climate Centers International Kenya Project (WCCI-Kenya), a multi-county climate and health research project in Kakamega, Narok and Siaya that uses citizen science approaches.

For nearly a decade, Rose has worked with grassroots communities to co-create locally led solutions for landscape restoration and climate adaptation, with a focus on women's participation in environmental governance and decision-making. She brings together communities, government institutions, development partners and researchers to deliver practical solutions with lasting environmental, social and economic impact.

Rose is currently pursuing a PhD in Climate Change and Adaptation at the University of Nairobi. She holds an MSc in Development Studies from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a Diploma in Analytical Chemistry. She is a trainer and a UNDP Kenya-certified Enterprise Development Agent.
