WWANC joined government agencies, conservation partners and local communities in marking #MazingiraDay2026 across Kakamega, Vihiga and Nandi counties under the theme “Our Environment, Our Responsibility.”
The celebrations were graced by Hon Musalia W Mudavadi, Chief Cabinet Secretary; Dr. Beatrice Inyangala , Principal Secretary for Higher Education; and Dr. Jane kere Imbunya , Principal Secretary State Department for Public Service, alongside other government officials and conservation stakeholders.
A total of 29,700 tree seedlings were planted across three sites: Senyende Block in Kakamega Forest, Kamulembe and Shaviringa in Vihiga, and Kimondi Forest in Nandi.
The activities highlighted the power of collective action in restoring degraded landscapes, protecting water resources, strengthening community livelihoods and advancing Kenya’s ambitious target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
WWANC was also commended for its continued efforts in landscape restoration, wetland protection and sustainable riparian management, reinforcing the importance of partnerships in advancing environmental conservation.
