Restoring Kobujoi Through Trees and Sustainable Livelihoods

WWANC, in partnership with International Tree Foundation (ITF), distributed agroforestry tree seedlings to farmers under the Threatened Tree Species (TTS) Project in Kobujoi, Nandi County.

The distribution included 987 Hass avocado seedlings alongside 760 threatened indigenous tree seedlings, including Prunus africana, Polyscias kikuyuensis, and Elgon teak.

To strengthen sustainable livelihoods, 25 beehives were also distributed to more than 85 farmers living along the forest buffer, creating opportunities for income generation while encouraging greater stewardship of Kobujoi Forest.

The initiative brings together restoration, biodiversity conservation and livelihoods, supporting farmers to diversify their incomes while contributing to the protection of threatened tree species and the wider forest ecosystem.

The exercise also brought together local leaders, Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Community Forest Association (CFA) representatives, reinforcing collective commitment to restoring and safeguarding Kobujoi Forest.
